Active rhyme time

  • Duration: 45 minutes
  • Who it's for: Baby & toddler (with parent or carer)

Fun, active rhymes and songs for your baby and toddler. A great way to meet other families and develop your child's communication and physical skills.

Baby group

  • Booking required? No, just drop-in
  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Who it's for: Non walkers

Meet other families with young babies in a supportive, stimulating and friendly environment. During this session there will be time to meet other local families with similar age babies, play and discover more about your babies development and support your wellbeing as a new parent.

Becoming Dad

Duration: Varied

Who’s it for: New and expectant fathers

An inclusive workshop for new and expectant fathers to help them to connect with and understand their babies’ needs.

Supported by trained facilitators from the Family Support Service, this workshop offers expectant and new fathers an informal and relaxed space to talk through any thoughts and challenges dad to dad as they transition into parenthood. This is a hands-on session where your baby aged 0 – 1 year can come too!

Support for dads with our Families First service

Infant feeding social group

  • Booking required? No, just drop-in
  • Who it's for: Babies 11 days and older (for younger babies, contact your midwife)

These groups are a great opportunity to get out and about and to discuss any responsive feeding questions you may have. There will be UNICEF accredited family centre staff available to support you on your feeding journey. Come along for social chats about any baby feeding questions you may have or just meet other mums/families – all are very welcome

Family Fun

Fun sessions with a wide range of activities for you and your children to play together, meet other local families and the Family Centre team.

As well as lots for Under 5's to enjoy, there will be activities for siblings up to the age of 8.

First aid

  • Booking required? Booking is required, but please see your relevant area timetable for details (if/when a course is scheduled).
  • Duration: 2 hours

This face to face session will provide parents-to-be, parents and carers with important first aid information and advice on such topics as baby and child resuscitation, treating head injuries, choking and burns. Led by an experienced first aid trainer.

Introduction to solid foods

  • Booking required?  Booking is required, but please see your relevant area timetable for details.

It is recommended to introduce solid foods to your baby around 6 months. Join us when your baby is 4-6 months old so you can prepare early, know the signs your baby is ready for food and get information in line with NHS guidelines as you prepare for this exciting next stage. Please arrive on time for this session as there is a lot of information to cover and the session will start promptly.

Parent café

  • Booking required? No, just drop-in

Meet other local families with children the same age and enjoy refreshments in a relaxed environment. Chat to family support staff about the benefits of the Family Centre Service and find out what's on.

Physical fun session

  • Who it's for: Children aged 18+ months.

A fun, active session. Come and meet other local families and enjoy lots of fun games and play opportunities to support your child with their physical development.

Preparing for parenthood - course

  • Booking required? Yes
  • Who it's for: Expectant parents 25-34 weeks pregnant.

This parenting course covers all the essentials you need to prepare for parenthood and the early years and is delivered by health visitors and family support staff.

Preparing for parenthood social events

  • Booking required? Yes
  • Frequency: Monthly event.
  • Who it's for: Expectant parents at any stage of pregnancy.

Preparing for Parenthood Social Events are a chance for you to meet other families and speak to a friendly member of the Family Support team. Visit your district section for dates, times and booking.

Please note that in South and West Hertfordshire, these sessions have been replaced with free drop-in Baby Fairs (no need to book).

Self weigh

  • Booking required? No, just drop-in

An opportunity to check your baby’s weight as well as talk to trained staff from the Family Support Service on a variety of health and parenting support topics. We offer two options to weigh your baby, either book an appointment via Eventbrite, or drop in at specific times (please see our What’s On guide for specific times).

 

Please access our self weigh stations to check your baby’s progress at 16 weeks, 20 weeks, 8 months and 12 months. If your baby is outside of these key touchpoints or if you have any concerns with your baby’s weight, please contact your health visitor on 0300 123 7572. For more information, please visit health for under 5s self-weigh stations.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) drop ins

  • Booking required? No
  • Duration: 60 or 90 minutes
  • Who it’s for: All are welcome whether your child is diagnosed or you are concerned about a possible need.

Our SEND drop-in sessions are a great opportunity to come and meet other families going through a similar journey, in a relaxed environment. Our team are on hand to talk about the services we offer, signpost to different organisations or to simply act as a listening ear.

Some centres also offer SEND sensory sessions.
